Zac set boundaries, managed-up, and got promoted

Background:

Zac Harris head of organic marketing

Zac Harris is currently the Head of Organic Marketing at Copy.ai. He has a background in SEO and growth marketing, and previously worked at SpyFu, Northcutt, and Animalz before landing his current gig. He and I had worked together previously, about a year prior, but re-engaged when Zac was hired at Copy.ai.

What challenges were you facing when we met?

I had just started working at Copy.ai and I realized that I had obvious gaps that you could help me close based on your previous experience. I recognized that this was an opportunity of a lifetime, and wanted to make a splash during my first 60-90 days.

Did you evaluate other alternatives?

No. We had worked together previously, so I knew you had been here and done that. Your experience speaks for itself and I felt confident that you’d be able to help me navigate growing into a leader at an early-stage startup. I originally reached out because of your previous experience and recommendations from my network.

What did we work on together?

Phew, a lot!

  1. Navigating life at a startup

  2. Managing up and setting boundaries

  3. Management and leadership mindset

What was the experience like?

Honestly, the advice and guidance you give is great, but my favorite part of working together is the fact you treat me like a human. You respect where I am in my journey and have my best interest in mind.

Any major results?

My confidence increased as we moved through our sessions. I was able to learn and deploy what I learned in our sessions to my day-to-day. And I got promoted!

Now I manage the entire organic marketing team vs. being siloed in SEO. My confidence is high, and I've been able to improve how I communicate with the leadership team.

Any message to someone on the fence about working with me?

Working with you has been a total game-changer! If you're looking to remove the haze that sits between marketing and the rest of the org, it's a no-brainer. You're able to learn from someone that's been in the trenches (their wins, mistakes, etc.) and immediately apply that to your day-to-day.

If you're on the fence, you may be passing up on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Andrew is a real-life Mr. Miyagi - with his incredible skill set and years of experience in the industry, he can help guide you to success like no one else.
