Resound designed their pricing model, launched their paid plans, and improved their operating systems

Background:

Resound is an AI podcast editing tool for creators. Their tool automatically removes the umms and ahhs that plague creators. It had been in private beta for several months and they were looking for product-led growth & pricing/packaging guidance as their tool emerged out of free beta.

I worked directly with Colby, their Product Manager.

What challenges were you facing when we met?

We were struggling to determine the best pricing model, including both the pricing and packaging - and wanted someone with experience in SaaS since our background is in an agency/services business.

I reached out to a colleague and asked him if he had any recommendations for an expert in SaaS pricing. He recommended two people, you were one of them! It seemed like you would be a great fit based on his recommendation

We wanted to work with an advisor who would really show us the frameworks behind their solutions so we could up-level internally and not just "outsource our problems."

We felt like you were a great match culturally with us and had the obvious expertise we needed to not only solve our pricing project but also help share advice with me since I'm a newish PM with less experience.

Additionally, we were super grateful that you gave away a lot of value in our sales/intro call. That really put us at ease that you would be value-first and not withhold things. The incentives felt aligned.

Did you evaluate other alternatives?

Profitwell/Patrick the CEO was recommended by my colleague as well, so we did briefly look into their stuff. But we ultimately moved forward with you because it felt like a more direct 1:1 relationship, which is what we were looking for.

What did we work on together?

We began by focusing on the pricing model and strategy at Resound for our launch, which happened on March 20th. Then we designed a product operating system (including both tactical ideas along with frameworks for decision-making and prioritization) to help me step into my role. And later, fine tuned the first-time user experience.

What was the experience like?

For me, it was like having a coach on call when I needed support on a specific problem. You showed us mental models, not just one-time answers - the whole experience was super valuable but also super chill. The company name is accurate!

Any major results?

  • We successfully launched our paid plans on March 20, 2023! Users have been able to seamlessly sign-up and buy paid plans, without any sales team. As a bonus, we’ve had almost no questions about our pricing, which was our major concern and a testament to the work we did together.

  • We have a much clearer operating system for building products at Resound

  • We have set up a simple yet powerful analytics system for the product and company as a whole
