Gary transitioned from Head of Biz Ops to Head of Growth at Motion
Background:
Gary was the Head of Business Operations at Motion when we first started working together. He was starting to take on more growth initiatives and wanted to fully transition into a full-time growth role.
What challenges were you facing when we met?
I was Head of Business Operations. I wanted to specialize and there was an opportunity for me to lead growth - but I felt like I wasn’t quite ready. I knew only the surface level of what the function and role entailed. I wanted to understand the roadmap a HoG makes. How to build influence in the organization and generally how to do really well in the role.
Did you evaluate other alternatives?
Yes, I started looking around for resources, talking to other heads of growth, and quickly stumbled upon the materials from Delivering Value.
What did we work on together?
Career planning, setting up the operating system for growth, understanding the function and my career in it.
What was the experience like?
I developed perspective and grew confidence that this is the function I want to continue spending time to specialize in. Andrew really got to know me as a person. Very amicable and real relationship.
Any major results?
Yes, I've run many dozens of tests. Most have 5-10% incremental impact from website conversions to email tests. It adds up! And I fully transitioned into the Head of Growth role at Motion.
Any message to someone on the fence about working with Andrew?
Andrew is empathetic, thoughtful, and resourceful. He's got a great network and perspective on the growth role. He is the real deal. He listens and will be a sounding board.
