Asking your employer to cover your coaching sessions

If you’re reading this, I’m assuming you’re interested in coaching and are figuring out how to pay.

90% of my clients have their employers pay for coaching.

SaaS companies typically have modest professional development budgets, usually $500 - $1500/yr to spend on courses or conferences. But most will provide exceptions if you’re interested in working 1:1 with a coach. Especially if you’re in a manager or leadership role.

30-40% of Director-level roles and above are actively working with a coach. And (although most coaches are outside of the $500-1500 range) most of those companies are happy to make the additional investment where they gain huge leverage from their highest impact roles.

You just need to ask.

Here's the deal: Coaching can help you level up your skills, boost your confidence, and dramatically increase your influence. It's a win-win – you get to be the best version of yourself at work, and your company gets a more skilled and motivated you.

Hey [manager name],

I am interested in working with a Growth Coach and was wondering if [company name] is open to covering the cost of my coaching sessions?

Andrew Capland (who’s the former Head of Growth at Wistia and Postscript) runs a coaching/mentorship practice, called Delivering Value where he works with growth operators in leadership roles at product-led companies.

The coaching program spans over 4 months and includes:

  • 2 private (60 min) coaching calls/mo

  • Unlimited email support between sessions

  • Access to all of Andrew’s courses and templates

Each session is customized based on what we’re working on - and has action items between sessions. It’s designed to improve our growth strategy, operating system, and my soft-skills as a leader.

The cost of the program is [$x,xxx]. You can review the program details here

What do you think?

Thanks,
